Okay, so I have had my nose to the grindstone on this one. However, I can say with confidence that this will be the single greatest story I have ever written (and may ever write). I couldn’t tell you specifically why, but I could tell you a bunch of reasons why I think that.
First, the characters are so rich with personality. I’m not new to diverse characters, but I feel like they run deeper this time. Each of them have their own personal goals and motivations that drive them forward, and lead to various levels of bonding between them. Some of them travel such similar paths that they unintentionally grow closer, while others have such opposite ideologies that they could never truly be friends.
Second, the overarching storyline is one of the most interesting ones I’ve ever made. Unlike some of the other books/series I’ve written, this one is clear as day. The heroes know what they have to do, and they have a general idea of where to do it, they only need to figure out the “how”. This has led to both amazing and unexpected character moments that really showcase the various abilities of the heroes and what they can do.
Lastly, the setting is unlike anything else I’ve made. The world of Paxanthus is incredibly alive, showcased all throughout the Forgotten Tale series, but it’s MASSIVE. This slice of Tahlav is much smaller, but so much richer in how the various towns mingle with one another, how rival kingdoms treat their neighbors, and how various criminal organizations find cracks to slip through. Each location is aware of the others around it, and each population has their own opinions of others. It’s truly a living, breathing setting.
I can’t sing the praises of this story enough, and I truly believe this will be my magnum opus. I don’t know if I will ever be able to top this story (although I know I’m going to try) and I feel like the length of the book is incredibly necessary to tell this tale to its fullest. I am almost 90k words in, and the intertwining storylines keep me wanting to write more and more, because I can’t wait to bring them to their conclusions. I am truly in love with this book, and I am elated at the opportunity to share it with all of you someday in the near future.
